Make your bio-toy with biowaste such as spent coffee grounds, casein and potatostarch
Service Description
MATERIAL Spent coffee grounds, water, casein (milk protein), potato starch, coffee husks, and glycerin. WHAT YOU LEARN Explore the creative potential of biowaste materials by making both flat (2D) and sculptural (3D) toys using casein and potato starch bioplastics. Learn how to create your own toy by shaping it with a hydraulic press, molds and cookie cutters. STRUCTURE After a short introduction and a detailed demonstration, you will work together in groups to create your own bio-mixture by following a six-step process which covers material preparation, molding, and shaping techniques. Using a simple recipe with casein you will create 2D shapes with a hydraulic press and cookie cutters. Each participant should have their own toy in the end with this process. In a second round you will create your 3D sculptural toy using a 3D printed mold and a potato starch recipe. As a group you will make one toy together. Finished pieces will be shipped back to you once they are fully dried in a dehydrator. We finish the workshop with a collective clean-up and a group reflection on the experience, the process, the environmental benefits of biobased materials and sustainable future actions.
