AICS International Community School in Amsterdam, with its two vibrant campuses, provided the perfect environment for the From Waste to Wonder workshops, specially designed for all eight Group 6 classes (Age 9-10) and  all eight Group 7 classes (ages 10-11). We were also welcomed to facilitate two more workshops on the Global Citizenship-day at one of their campuses (Age 10-12). 🌿✨
Â
The workshop invited students to explore how bio-waste like coffee grounds and potato starch can be transformed into sustainable bioplastics, encouraging creativity and hands-on learning. During the intro and exploration phase, students were guided to investigate material properties such as hardness, flexibility, and recyclability, linking this vocabulary to their current curriculum. They discussed what makes materials recyclable or compostable, and why some materials are seen as waste when they lack these sustainable properties. This focus helped deepen their understanding of circular design and sustainability.

It was inspiring to see the students apply this knowledge while molding and pressing their eco-friendly creations, which they then took home after drying. This workshop perfectly aligns with AICS’s commitment to innovation and environmental awareness.
